Class: COLLEMBOLA Lubbock, 1870
Order: SYMPHYPLEONA Börner, 1901
Family: Dicyrtomidae Börner, 1906
Species: Dicyrtomina ornata (Nicolet, 1842), Scarce.
This species is listed as scarce, I have the experience that it in each case here in Drenthe is one of the common species.
The species is very variable in colour, very light but also very dark animals are to be seen.
The dark spot on the back sometimes has a kind of branch as with saundersi, but when in doubt,
look at the color of the feelers, which are of one colour in ornata. You see the animals from October to April.
Species that can be confused with it are:
Dicyrtomina minuta and Dicyrtomina saundersi.
